San Ignacio Miní is what remains of one of the seventeenth-century Guaraní Jesuit missions, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The red sandstone walls still mark the square, the church and the houses — the whole town plan can be read on the ground. It lies inland in Misiones, which is why the programme takes the day: about ten hours, road included.
