The obelisk stands on the bank where the Iguaçu river flows into the Paraná, and from there you see all three border landmarks at once: the Brazilian one you are standing at, and the Argentine and Paraguayan ones across the water, each painted in its country’s colours. It is a short stop, and late afternoon is the best hour, with the sun going down over the meeting of the rivers.
The guide picks your party up at Hotel das Cataratas, inside Iguaçu National Park, and stays with the group from departure back to the same address. About 30min in total, travel included — and from here the drive starts inside the park.
